The Arts at CFS

Arts education is an integral part of the Church Farm School experience. In 2020, we completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of a former garage and woodshop into the Buck Family Center for the Arts. Our outstanding facility reflects our thriving arts program. Our students practice creativity, self-expression, problem-solving and responsible risk-taking. They learn from dedicated teachers who are also practicing artists and musicians. A schoolwide celebration of the arts occurs every spring during "Arts Week" with performances, exhibitions, visiting artists and hands-on activities for every member of the CFS community. Our arts curriculum serves all levels, whether beginner or advanced, and grants equal access by providing all art materials and instruments to students.

  • Performing Arts

    The music program includes band, choir, music technology, music theory, guitar and piano. Our award-winning choir has earned first-place at numerous music festivals and competitions throughout the US and Canada, and has even performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. The choir has performed in Germany and South Africa, and is planning a trip to Israel. The goal of the music department is to provide a comprehensive outcome-based music curriculum that includes all styles and aspects of music for students of all ability levels and interests.

  • Visual Arts

    The visual arts program offers courses in the traditional mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. We also have a dedicated ceramics studio, state-of-the-art woodshop and a modern digital photography lab. Our new professional gallery space hosts both student and professional exhibitions. Classes take field trips to prominent collections such as the Barnes Foundation and Philadelphia Museum of Art. At CFS, emerging artists explore all media and gain foundational skills. In addition, structured curriculum offers more advanced students level-two classes to expand their knowledge. They are encouraged to develop a portfolio and some continue on to art colleges and universities.

  • Collaboration and Clubs

    Our cross-curricular approach includes close integration between our arts and STEM programs. For example, we use 3D printers, laser cutters and CNC machines to render projects; music technology classes study sound wave lengths to better understand music; and sculpture classes use the laser cutters to create artwork. We also offer lunchtime and afterschool clubs, many student-organized and led, that allow our scholars to delve deeper into subjects that interest them.

The Church Farm School is an independent boarding and day school for boys in grades 9-12 located in Exton, PA. Founded in 1918 to provide an excellent education to young men from limited means, Church Farm School now serves boys from a range of socio-economic circumstances who are seeking an extraordinary educational opportunity. The school offers a challenging college preparatory curriculum and an exceptional level of personal attention, with class sizes averaging between just 7 and 12 students.
