It gets the students changing their mindset from 'how do I do this' to 'how might we do this.' It's up to them to come up with ideas.

Vernice Veranga Mulcahy: CFS Teacher and Parent

Vernice Veranga-Mulcahy joined the CFS faculty this year as a chemistry and 9th grade STEM teacher, having most recently taught at Malvern Prep. Born in California, Vernice spent most of her life in Chicago, where she taught for two years at a boys school after graduating from the University of Illinois. "I feel like I've been looking for a school like that ever since," she says. "Church Farm School is so similar ... diverse, small." Vernice moved to Chester County more than 20 years ago with her husband (a fellow University of Illinois alum who works next door to Church Farm School at an aerospace engineering company). The couple has two sons; the eldest, CJ, is in his second year at Church Farm School as a day student. Vernice has vast experience teaching at many different types of schools. In addition to Malvern Prep, she was the education technology specialist at the Chester County Intermediate Unit, taught science at West Chester East High School and even taught at an online school. In addition to enjoying being back at an all-boys school, Vernice says Church Farm School's focus on STEM and the "design thinking process" the curriculum encourages was exciting to her. "It gets the students changing their mindset from 'how do I do this' to 'how might we do this.' It's up to them to come up with ideas." Vernice will be running the school's STEAM Club, where students will work toward participating in regional competitions such as TSA and Physics Olympics. We're thrilled to have Vernice and CJ as part of the CFS community!
