Brett Fortune

While he lettered twice in soccer and three times in basketball, Brett Fortune '86 is best remembered for his track achievements. In track, Brett held records in the 400-meter sprint (52.5 seconds), the 110 high hurdles (14.83 seconds) and the 330 intermediate hurdles (40.4 seconds). At Hampton University, Brett was the Division II National Champion in the hurdles and an All-American student-athlete. He qualified for the Olympic trials in 1988. According to classmate Walt Smith, "Brett's work ethic, passion for excellence and his 'never-say-die' attitude distinguished him from many other athletes of his era."
