Margaret van Steenwyk Appointed Assistant Head of School/Director of Academic Affairs

Church Farm School, an independent boarding and day college preparatory school for boys in grades 9-12 in Exton, PA, has named Margaret van Steenwyk as Assistant Head of School/Director of Academic Affairs. She will join the school community on July 1, 2021. As part of the school’s senior leadership team, van Steenwyk will play an integral role, responsible for the academic curriculum and all instruction; the school’s annual and daily schedule; and oversight of all teaching staff, department chairs, faculty recruitment, professional development, performance and evaluation and the student advisory program. Van Steenwyk brings more than 30 years of educational mastery and experience to Church Farm School, having worked in a variety of private school settings as a teacher and administrator, including The Darrow School, Rider College, The Lawrenceville School, and most recently, The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA, where she has been Head of the Upper School since 2012.

Van Steenwyk’s experience and vision position her well for leading Church Farm School’s college preparatory program and wonderfully diverse community, especially building STEAM and Global Learning programs, supporting innovation and bringing community together in pursuit of strategic goals. “The work for all educators at this time is inspiring, energizing and exhausting all at once. I am convinced that the education landscape will be significantly changed by Covid-19, and I feel the last six months have made me ready to take on the opportunity of leading Church Farm’s faculty in efforts to support school improvements and exemplary 21st century teaching and learning,” says van Steenwyk.

Says Head of School The Rev. Edmund K. Sherrill II, “Margaret is deeply committed to young people with a proven track record of educational leadership and achievement, particularly in the areas of curriculum and faculty development. In an age of adaptation, Margaret will bring maturity, balance, a listening ear and professional fortitude to our community in pursuit of our mission goals.” He continues, “I’d like to thank our Board of Directors and administrators and faculty who participated on our search committee, and I look forward to Margaret joining our community on July 1.”
