Oliver Scholars Names Church Farm School Partner School of the Year
The Church Farm School (CFS) is pleased to announce that Oliver Scholars has named the school its “Partner School of the Year.” One of the premier education access programs in New York City, Oliver Scholars prepares high-achieving Black and Latino students from underserved communities for success at top independent schools and colleges. Church Farm School Head of School The Reverend Edmund K. Sherrill II was presented the award from two recent CFS graduates, Andrew Richards ’17 and Zozi Flores ’17, at Oliver Scholars 2017 Recognition Ceremony on August 15. Andrew and Zozi were honored along with other members of Oliver Scholars Class of 2017 and recognized for their matriculation to leading universities (Andrew to Yale and Zozi to Brown).
Church Farm School was founded in 1918 with the mission of giving young men with “academic ability and good character” a private education at little cost to their families. Nearly 100 years later, the school continues to make its rigorous college preparatory curriculum accessible to bright, underserved young men who otherwise would not have such an opportunity. “We are honored by this recognition from Oliver Scholars, a leading partner program of ours that does so much good for young people in New York City,” says Sherrill. “Working together, we are changing the trajectory of many lives, giving our young men the confidence and tools they need to grow as leaders and contributors within their communities and our nation.”
Adds David Allyn, Oliver Scholars CEO, “Church Farm School has demonstrated a commitment to supporting Oliver's mission of preparing its scholars for success in high school, college and beyond. This commitment begins in the admissions office where this year alone five students will be matriculating to CFS in the fall. It continues with the all-star cast of educators and mentors that have ensured our scholars’ success in all areas of life at Church Farm School and culminates in the college office where this year Zozi Flores and Andrew Richards were guided to successful admissions into Brown and Yale Universities.” To learn more about Oliver Scholars, visit www.oliverscholars.org.
