Church Farm School Participates in First-Ever Pumpkin Day at East Bradford Elementary School
Eleventh graders in Mr. Art Smith's AP Chemistry Class partnered with East Bradford Elementary School first graders and K-2 Life Skills students in October for their first-ever Pumpkin Day. Held at East Bradford Elementary School in the West Chester Area School District (WCASD), the "Big Brothers" at Church Farm School led the students in five education stations with math and science themes.
Stations included measuring pumpkins and organizing the data, creating and recording number bonds using pumpkin seeds, sampling pumpkin products and writing about them, using the five senses to explore pumpkins and reviewing the life cycle of a pumpkin.
“Over the past few years we’ve coordinated Apple Day with the Church Farm School,” said Malia Jones, a first grade teacher who helped coordinate Pumpkin Day. “This was our first year celebrating pumpkins, and we enjoyed planning the special day together and watching all of the students meaningfully participate and learn at each station.”
“Our hope is to coordinate another community-based project with East Bradford Elementary in the spring,” said Mr. Smith, who helped coordinate the event. “We would love to have the first graders come to Church Farm School.”
