SEI Young Professionals Impart College and Workforce Wisdom to Seniors

Three young professionals from SEI, a financial services company headquartered in Oaks, PA, visited Church Farm School on December 11 to share best practices they learned after high school on everything from securing financial aid to networking. Matt Ward (pictured right), a quality control analyst, Matt Rovi (pictured second from right), a relationship manager and Linh Nguyen (pictured second from left), an HR business partner, all had unique experiences and wisdom to impart to the Class of 2016.
Rovi, who majored in business with a concentration in marketing at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, said he agrees with his own father's advice, that "it's not where you go to college, it's what you do while you're there." Nguyen, who attended community college before transferring to Temple University, strongly concurs. "My fifth grade teacher actually advised me to start with community college, and I did. When I transferred, I had less loans to worry about."
Ward attended Arizona State University, and said his financial aid package was a result of participation in ROTC. "Every university has a recruiting office, and you can get 25 - 100% off of your tuition depending on your situation," he says. Beyond ROTC, Ward was active in fraternity life, which he said is a huge benefit not just socially in college, but professionally, as well as electives. If you peek at his LinkedIn, you'll see that he has an astounding amount of credentials, clubs and interests.
Nguyen told the students she recommends they get on LinkedIn in high school. "If you don't have one, they will think you don't exist." She also said that, at least at SEI, they are not looking at your Facebook profile for bad behavior, although she reminded them that they should always act responsibly on social media. "There is a trail, even if you mark your pictures private. Be smart about the way you use it!"
We are so thankful to SEI and especially Rovi, Ward and Nguyen for spending time with our seniors!
