One of the keys to the school's sports resurgence in the early 1960s, Norm was a three-sport star, earning 13 varsity letters in soccer, basketball and track. He lettered in soccer five times, starting in eighth grade. During his sophomore and junior years, the track team went 19-0; his best events were the javelin and discus. Norm is most remembered for his skill on the basketball court. He helped lead the school to its first two KSAC basketball championships. Coach Newt Disney '48 remembers Norm as one of the top players he had the privilege of coaching, noting that in addition to his considerable athletic skills, he was the consummate leader and team player.
